101 Things In 1001 Days Blog

Written By: Cat Hipps

Here we go again on our own, going down the only road we’ve ever known.

Right, I’m supposed to be doing a blog post. I always have a hard time starting them anyway so why not start distracted. As many of you know, the new year has started. A lot of people like doing resolutions, I’m not a huge fan, but I do like having goals because I am easily distracted. Well, while I was perusing goodreads I came across a post from Golden Angel called 101 Things in 1001 days and well, the rest is history. Or will be history. I mean, really who knows. (PS Check out her website, she has great books that are pretty darn spicy.) Anyway, I was inspired and decided to do my own list. I personally had never heard of this but apparently, I live under a rock because this has been a thing for several years. The premise of the idea is that you give yourself a finite amount of time to do some goals, some big, some little, some maybe a little unrealistic, (at least that’s what I did). When you give yourself a deadline you are more likely to succeed or at least hopefully won’t forget about it. Personally, in the long run I need deadlines to get me motivated but once the deadline is actually within reach I get really overwhelmed and shut down. In this case you get about 2 1/2 years to get things done. Hopefully just by living my life I’'ll cross a few off my list. However as, I assume, many have lived through the last 2 years of a pandemic I’ve realized that I don’t really feel motivated to do things as much anymore and have stopped doing things that I love. Now with a bit of medication and counseling I am in a much better place, but I would still like to get stuff down that is easy to put off.

Now, onto this list. I really thought this was going to be easy to put together but let me tell you, 101 things is kind of a lot and a little overwhelming. I probably should have put some ridiculously easy things down, but I did mildly easy things. I came up with 7 different categories of things that I wanted to focus on and they are: health, work, home, family, spouse, children and soul. Well, that means on average each category needs about 14 ideas. Well, let me tell you, doing things with my spouse seems…unmotivatingunfuntoo hard…to automatically happen with a lot of the other categories. So really, I only came up with like 6 items. I mean I love them but what are you going to do. Torture both of us for the next 2 and half years trying to make our lives even more exhausting? I like to believe that we are happy where we are and do a pretty good job communicating on what we need and making it happen. Obviously from the list you can tell that I would prefer to work on myself most. I have a bit of a hate/hate relationship with myself. My counselor informed me that I have a lot of negative self-talk and should give myself more grace. Anyway, you’ll probably notice that my “Soul” category has the most items on the list. I think this is mostly because it is an eclectic mix of things and they’re really random and bizarre make me happy so why not try to make myself happy and maybe in the process I’ll grow to have more of a love/hate relationship instead.

I am really extra rambling so I’m going to stop now. I hope that you enjoy the list that I made and that maybe you are inspired to start your own journey. I will randomly have update posts for you to look forward to, but I will also update the actual list with dates and comments. So, until next time, much love! -Cat
